Book Recommendations

To me one of the greatest feelings in the world is coming home from a long day of school and curling up with a good book. I wanted to share my top three and I tried to keep it as short as possible, but there is so much one can say about their favorite books!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is one of the greatest stories I have read. Composed of a series of letters from Charlie to his friend, the story tells of Charlie’s freshman year in high school and the seniors he befriends. Sam and Patrick take Charlie under their wings; they show him new things and teach him life lessons. You learn that Charlie is dealing with a lot emotionally. As the reader, you sympathize with Charlie and maybe you see a little of yourself in him. I recommend this read for anyone entering or currently in high school. It’s a look into high school, and life, from the outside and maybe you’ll discover that you, yourself are a wallflower, just like Charlie.

Bossypants

There is a lot to say about the hilarious Tina Fey and she says it perfectly in Bossypants. In her autobiography, Fey tells stories of her childhood, what it’s like to work in improv and how she got where she is today. Her behind-the-scenes tales are interesting to someone who is interested in film and productions, so if that’s you, maybe give this one a read.

The Great Gatsby

If you’ve seen Baz Luhrmann’s movie, then read the book. If you’ve read the book, then see the movie. Watching the movie, I feel like I’m there; feeling the same things as the characters and soaking in the chaos that was the roaring twenties. While this book isn’t for everyone, it is definitely a great story. I fell in love with Gatsby and mourn for him.
