Winter is cold and lovely, but what can you get to make it just lovely? The answer is simple - candles.
Candles help you stay toasty in your room without wearing piles of layers. You can replace the sharp smell of coldness with the scent of springtime flowers and summer grass. Or just whatever you prefer. To get you started with winter toasty-ness, here are some of Mxde Magazine team’s favourite stores and candles.
YANKEE CANDLES is hands down, my absolute favourite. They have a massive selection and has the most well-made and original candles. Unlike the typical flower fragrances, it has scents like Angel’s Wings and Autumn Leaves. It’s “A world of fragrance” and has “a wealth of decor items [that] await you”.
Some of my favourite scents are Guava, Seaglass, and Summer Wish.
Guava has a sweet and strong scent that gives off a beautiful aroma when lit up. It gives it’s faint aroma even when its lid is off.
Seaglass has an elegant, sweet and luscious fragrance, easily my first choice.
Summer Wish is a delightful Spring scented combination of summer grass and flowers. Almost like wishes you’ve made when you were younger, honeyed and innocent. Perhaps that’s the reason why it’s named ‘Summer Wish’.

ROOT CANDLES is a family-owned business founded in 1869. They have been making candles of superb quality ever since. With fragrances like Crisp Autumn, Paradise, and Pinot Noir; it’s definite that you’ll be able to find the perfect one with their extensive fragrance variety.
Their candles are made out of beeswax because the founder of Root Candles Amos Ives Root was involved in Bee Culture, making it a business that protects bees. On another note, their Christmas Celebration Collection and Legacy Queen Bee Jar line are also especially worth mentioning.

VIRGINIA CANDLE COMPANY’s WoodWick Candles is a famous favourite. Although pricey, their candles don’t smoke or give off soot - they burn clean and pure. The scents are very pleasant like Rum Raisin and Frasier Fir. The jars are classy and gives off a 'prestigious’ vibe, making it great for gifts! It has an organic wooden wick. I have yet to try it first hand, but many recommend to try it at least once.
BATH AND BODY WORKS’ Candle line is another popular favourite, with their unique 3-wick candles, they win in terms of originality. They have scents like Frosted Cranberry and Evergreen for their Winter Collection. They even have fragrances specifically for Stress Relief, like their best seller Eucalyptus Spearmint. Perfect to deal with workload through this season.
GLADE achieves the simple, clean outlook on candles easily, paving the way for new candle users every day. They have scents like Cashmere Woods and Winterberry. The best thing about their website is that they have a review system which allows you to see which scents are popular. Although their scents may look 'cheap’, it’s worth a shot!
